For thousands of years, the term Adhyatma Shastra has been in vogue. So a question may naturally arise as to why this column has been started under the title Adhyatma-Vidnyan (Spiritual Science). Secondly, one may also think that a farfetched attempt is being made to relate spirituality and physical science because such statements have been made earlier.

Actually, every Shastra (Applied Science) is necessarily based on Vidnyan(Pure  Science). However, in case of religious beliefs; performing rituals only because it is mentioned in religious scripturesis blind imitation. After carrying out vigorous research on Spirituality for 35 years, I realised that Adhyatma-Vidnyan is a perfect science of the mind. Physical science is related to gross matter while Adhyatma-Vidnyan or Spiritual Science is related to the subtle mind.  Physical science and Adhyatma-Vidnyan are two sides of the same coin and can never be separate from one another.

There is a misconception among people that the word Vidnyan or science has come into vogue after physical science began to develop. However, in the Atharvashirsha written thousands of years ago, Adi Ganesh or Lord Ganesh is addressed as: tvam jnanamayo Vidnyanmayosi meaning:- You are full of knowledge and wisdom. Furthermore, the Bhagavad Gita believed to be the basis of Hindu philosophy was written about four to five thousand years ago and has one full chapter titled Dnyan Vidnyan Yoga. The second verse of this chapter is as follows:- I will impart you this knowledge along with the wisdom after knowing which there will be nothing left to know in this world. What this means is that any knowledge becomes complete only after the underlying science or wisdom is known. And, therefore, it is only after understanding Adhyatma-Vidnyan or Spiritual-Science that any knowledge of Adhyatma or spirituality becomes complete.
